What does DTaP-Polio vaccine contain?
• The vaccine contains antigens for pertussis and polio as well as tetanus and diptheria toxoids. • Aluminum phosphate, polysorbate 80, 2-phenoxyethanol, bovine serum, traces of formaldehyde, polymixin B and neomycin. • May contain dry natural latex rubber. How effective is the vaccine? • To those who have completed the series, provides 85% protection against pertussis and > 97% protection to diphtheria, polio and tetanus. • The acellular pertussis component is not quite as effective, but does decrease the seriousness of the disease if it occurs. How long does the protection last? • Boosters of tetanus and diphtheria are recommended every 10 years after the initial series.
