What does digital divide mean,and what is indias position in global communications network?
The ‘digital-divide’ is a term often used to indicate the glaring dissimilarities between the opportunities one can avail in urban & rural areas in India. These oppurtunities include the way people communicate with each other & the world. This includes telephones, mobile phones, television & the internet. India is in a fine position concerning communication networks. We are an emerging communications network economy. The Indian economy boasts of one of the fastest growing telecomm sector which is a major part of this network. However we are behind China in this respect. China boasts of 30 million cellphone subscribers whereas India is a megre 7 million.
