What does, ‘deep watering,’ mean?
The term, ‘deep watering,’ means exactly what it sounds like; the plant prefers to have the water penetrate deeply into the soil. The best way to achieve this is to control the water supply so that it is delivering water very slowly and over a longer period. The slower the delivery the more time there is for the water to seep down to the lower levels of the root system. Deep watering often means less watering cycles so if you have a drip system for the rest of the yard, and just one plant that requires deep watering, take it our of the drip system and use a garden hose. If you have a mix of watering types, then consider having a separate drip line and valve installed so that these plants can be watered independently from the others.
