What does % Daily Value mean on a food label?
The % Daily Value puts nutrients on a scale of 0 to 100%. This scale tells you if there is a lot or a little of a nutrient in a serving of that food. For example, a food that has 45% of Daily Value for fibre means that you’re getting almost half of your day’s recommended intake for fibre by eating a stated serving of that food. For healthy nutrients, like fibre, vitamin C, and calcium, look for foods that have a high % Daily Value. To eat less fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, and sodium, choose foods that have a low % Daily Value of these.
