What does CPAP stand for? What is a CPAP machine?
CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. A physician prescribed CPAP machine delivers air into your airway through tubing and a mask or “nasal pillow“ system. A “sleep study“ will determine the correct amount of air that should be delivered to each patient based on various parameters obtained through the sleep study. Generally speaking, the flow of air creates enough pressure to keep your airway open while you are sleeping, thereby preventing snoring and apnea events.
