What does Composite, RGB, Component, S-Video, & HDMI mean?

0

Over the years, as broadcast & storage mediums have increased in performance it has become necessary to introduce new types of signal connections between products to cope with this improved performance. This leads to ever changing standards & an increasingly complicated array of connections. We can’t simply drop the old standards as we introduce new as this would make equipment obsolete at an alarming rate. The VCR for example, is still only compatible with the lowest performing connection of Composite Video, if this was to be scrapped you would no longer be able to connect your VCR to your Television. The available connection options in order of ascending quality are as follows: Composite Video: • Compatible Devices: All devices are compatible with composite video except PC monitors • • Connection Methods: Plug Type: Notes: Label: • Scart Default Configuration AV • 1xRCA Yellow Video or Y • 1xBNC Video or Y S-Video: • Always Compatible Devices: DVD, Sky+, Plasma, LCD, DLP, PS2, X-box
