What does CMS mean by “Provider Type” on the RAPS record layout?
Provider type indicates the type of data that is being submitted (hospital inpatient, physician, and hospital outpatient). CMS is subdividing the hospital inpatient provider type into two categories: 1) hospital inpatient principal diagnosis and 2) other hospital inpatient diagnosis(es). There will be a 2-digit number that corresponds to provider type for data submission.
