What Does Carnivorous Mean?
Carnivorous means relating to or involving carnivores. It is an adjective. Its noun form is also carnivorous while its adverb form is carnivorously. It may also denote a predatory nature. A carnivore is any organism that includes meat in its diet. It originates from the Latin words Carne meaning ‘flesh’ and vorare meaning ‘devour’. There are many carnivorous animals. Human that eat meat are commonly referred to as non vegetarian as opposed to those who eat only vegetables who may be called vegetarians. Carnivorous animals include lions, tigers, pumas, panthers, cheetahs and leopards. They may also be scavengers. Carnivorous birds include hawks, eagles, owls and falcons. Carnivorous fish include sharks, toothed whales, squid and octopuses. Carnivorous plants include the Nepenthes mirabilis. Polar bears, vultures, ferrets, crocodiles and domestic dogs are also carnivorous.
