California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles and nearby Monterey on Friday after wildfires threaten nearby residents. Thousands of firefighters have battled three wildfires that erupted this week, two in the Angeles National Forest, and northeast of LA, which threatened nearly 1,000 homes and scorched 1,500 acres of land and the remains of an overnight fire in Palos Verdes Peninsula. Firefighters continue to battle a fast-spreading wildfire in Monterey County that has expanded to nearly 8 square miles, forcing 1000 homes to be evacuated.
