What does “breach of peace” referee to?

Some of the answers on here are more or less correct but to give you the actual definition in simple terms, a breach of the peace is caused when a persons behaviour is such that it is likely that violence towards persons or damage to property will occur if their behaviour continues. So, disorderly or drunken behaviour falls under that heading and a breach of the peace can be used to remove a person from a situation that may spiral out of control. Its also something that can be used if a person is at a location uninvited and someone wants them to be removed by the Police. They would be removed to prevent a breach of the peace from occurring. However once the breach of the peace has stopped or the likelihood of it occurring has passed then that person is no longer under arrest and can be released.
