What does BJD look like in a herd?
The signs of BJD are chronic scouring and weight loss in adult cattle that does not respond to treatment. Although the disease is invariably fatal in animals that develop signs, not all infected cattle develop signs and most cattle are turned off or culled before signs are seen. BJD has a long development period so it can take many years for the disease to start showing up in a herd. Animals showing obvious signs of the disease will first occur sporadically with a gradual build up in numbers over time.
