What Does Bit Depth Mean in Digital Radiography?
Bit depth, in digital radiography, corresponds to the number of gray levels possible in an image. The more gray levels possible, the more range a user has when working with the image, specifically adjusting the window and level of the image (brightness and contrast). The higher the bit depth, the more data available, which means pixel values can be more accurately saved relative to surrounding pixel values.
