What does being restrained mean?
The staff will do everything possible to help you to not be restrained. However, as your were told when you visited we will only restrain a boy if he is a danger to himself, to others, or is involved in serious damage of property. Restraint usually happens when a boy is out of control. You will be safely held until you are calm. You will need to talk about your feelings after the restraint and work out a plan with the staff as to how to manage to keep calm and in control in the future. The staff are trained to hold you safely and you will not be deliberately hurt. Sometimes a boy is not able to manage himself in the group with the rest of the boys and he will be kept apart from his group for a period of time. This may mean he spends in his room or the Piccola Casa unit. Sometimes in certain situations a full clothes search if there is reason to believe that the boy has illegal substances.
