What Does At-Risk Mean?
There are many definitions of at-risk. The term is generally used to describe children who have special social, academic, and/or emotional needs because they live in an unstable environment or receive too little adult attention. We ask teachers to refer children who could profit from a relationship with a caring adult who will befriend the child and help him with academic skill development. An at-risk child may be your neighbor, your nephew, or your son.
