API means American Petroleum Institute, USA, Which develops/certifies engine oils with active consultation with various vehicle manufacturers. They assign grades like API CC/CD/CF/CG/CH/CI. etc. for commercial vehicle segment using HSD as fuel & SF/SG/SH/SI for gasolene segment (having petrol engines). The higher the alphabet, the better is engine oil, e.g. SI is better than SH or SG etc. and CI is better than CH or CG etc.
