What does an Plant/Maintenance Electrical apprentice do?
As an Plant/Maintenance Electrician you will be involved in: • making, fitting or repairing electrical machines, instruments or appliances • applying electrical knowledge in the course of your work As an Plant/Maintenance Electrician you must be able to: • read mechanical drawings, electrical wiring diagrams or specifications to find out job requirements • decide which parts and materials are needed and check them for accuracy using measuring instruments • make or alter metal parts, assemble parts and check that they fit and are lined up correctly • select and cut wires or cables, strip insulation from wire ends and connect wires or cables to terminals or connectors according to wiring diagrams • position and assemble parts on site • operate and maintain machine tools such as lathes, drilling machines, welding and heating equipment and hoists.
