What does an Intercalated Year or a Year in Research involve?
Both are sandwich years taken in year four of the degree and both extend the degree to five years in length. In an intercalated year a student will normally work in industry, whilst the year in research option recognises those students who choose to gain research experience in a government, industrial or academic engineering facility. Both degrees require students to submit a report at the end of their placement. This report is assessed on a pass/fail basis only and does not contribute a mark towards the degree classification.
