WHAT DOES AN ADVISOR DO?
A faculty advisor is assigned to help you plan your educational program. The advisor can assist you in understanding your strengths and weaknesses, setting your goals and utilizing the resources of Lawrence effectively. Your Lawrence education can be most rewarding when you build a strong relationship with a faculty advisor. In addition to an excellent education, you may gain a valued mentor.
Sport Club Advisors are the main guidance that club officers and participants have with regard to their club. They oversee the activities of the Sport Club to ensure that no University policies are broken and/or no laws are broken by the Sport Club. Advisors may help with the organization of a tournament or event that the club is hosting, they also may give advice to the club on how to raise funds and/or how to present a budget to the Sport Club Council, they should be well aware of all the Sport Clubs activities throughout the entire year. Advisors must be full time faculty or staff at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Advisors take the time to get to know you so they can guide you in the right direction when it comes to selecting courses for your semester schedule or when choosing a major. They don’t make decisions for you but help you discover your interests and potential and then assist you in making the decisions.
Academic Advisors help students select their classes each semester. Advisors help students stay on track with their general education and university requirements, and recommend courses helpful to the anticipated major. Advisors help undecided students determine a major, and/or a minor, given the student’s interests andaptitudes. Advisors also help students experiencing difficulties or challenges, academic or personal, connect with appropriate resources to help resolve potential obstacles to their success.
