What does America give thanks to on Thanksgiving? Why the turkey?
When the Puritans landed in Plymouth, on Cape Cod, they had no idea how harsh things were going to be. By some accounts they were eating their dogs and chewing on the leather of their shoes. Luckily for them, two Indians named Samoset and Squanto came to visit. The Natives showed them where wild onions grew, and how to snare the wild guinea fowl (turkey) that roamed the woods. That’s why the turkey; that, and the fact that turkeys are big enough to feed a crowd.
