What does Alaska think about its fish and wildlife resources?
Alaska is the only state in the nation with a constitutional mandate that requires sustainability of its fish and wildlife resources. However, with the abundance of fisheries resources, often involving disparate user groups, it is not surprising that controversies over resource management have been among the most bitter in Alaska’s history. The courts have been called on frequently to decide the meaning of constitutional language in the context of these disputes.
