Wood flooring is a natural product and needs time to get accustomed to it new environment or climate. Acclimation time varies by type of wood and the amount of square footage being installed. Prefinished hardwood flooring generally does not need acclimation time as it has already been through the finishing process. Unfinished flooring may need to acclimate before installation and then again before sanding and finishing.
