What does Abnormal Cells in a pap smear mean?

0

Pap smear test the cells on your cervix. If a pap comes back abnormal it could be anywhere from yeast infections, herpes, trichomonas, recent sexual activity, or use of vaginal preparations, are often things which cause an abnormal Pap smear result. HPV is also something that causes abnormal paps and this is the virus linked to cervical cancer. There are multiple strains of HPV and only a couple are linked to cervical cancer and even those high risk strains do not always cause cervical cancer… so even worst case scenario that your diagnosed with HPV it does not mean you will develop cervical cancer. I would call your dr and see if you can be given more specific information as to what the cause of the abnormal pap are. If it is HPV then they should be able to test the abnormal cells and diagnose. Having a baby should not effect your pap results. Again, could be simply some inflammation that is nothing at all to worry about so don’t stress it.
