What does a typical day at Medium A. Juvenile Prison involve?
• Arrive at the prison at approx. 08:15. • go to the cells via locked doors/grilles/long passages/across quads and into the sections/cells. • greet guys. • set up for programmes in various sections/cells (Devotions/worship and praise, Bible studies and discipleship groups, Evangelism Explosion 111, or do one-to-one counselling, hospital visitation, outreach or special programmes: life skills/conflict resolution/computer/guitar lessons currently.) (October 2005) • Undertake programmes for about 3 4 hours each morning. • Lunch is at approximately 12:00 for the inmates. • We spend time chatting/counselling with the guys for an hour or two thereafter. • The cells are locked at about 2 p.m. until early the following morning. • Our afternoons are spent following up ex-prisoners, including family liaison and on Fridays running programmes at Bonnytoun Reform School. • We visit De Novo Reform School, and Drakenstein and other prisons on a monthly/quarterly basis.
