What does a throttle body spacer do? Is it worth the money?
It really depends what kind of vehicle your trying to install one on. Old V8’s that use a carb can actually get a decent benefit from a carb spacer for three reasons. It gives the fuel a little more room to atomize and mix with the air before it heads into the intake manifold. It also offers a little more intake volume. And lastly if the throttle body is made of some heat resistant material (like a phenolic spacer) it can keep the fuel for the engine cooler which helps with power. For a throttle body car…it gets the slight volume increase…and if your car has a throttle body that runs coolant through it (to allow easy starts in FRIGID weather) it can help by blocking off coolant passages to the throttle body and lowering your intake air temperatures. (Don’t use one if you live in Alaska) You can see real gains on a throttle body with the coolant passage removal via a throttle body spacer…but the volume increase gains are really negligible and the most you will notice is better thr
