What does a Surgical Technologist do in Surgical Technology?
Surgical Technologists, also called Surgical or Operating Room Technicians or “Scrubs” assist in day to day surgical operations under the supervision of a surgeon, registered nurse or other surgical personnel. They are members of operating room teams which will most commonly include one or more surgeons, circulating nurses, and anesthesiologists. Before an operation, Surgical Technologists will help to prepare the operating room by setting up any surgical instruments and equipment needed for the operation and provide sterile drapes and sterile solutions. They assemble both the sterile and nonsterile equipment as well as adjusting and checking it to ensure proper condition. Surgical Technologists also transport patients to the operating room while helping them on to the operating table. Next they will help cover them with sterile surgical drapes.
