The IRF-PAI captures different types of data than the Minimum Data Set (MDS) instruments. The IRF-PAI captures functional independence measures as well as other items that are not documented on the MDS. These additional measures allow a facility staff to compare the efficacy and efficiency of the practices of the SNF (or of a chain of SNFs) to national and regional benchmarks. The data can also be used for clinical purposes.
