What does a regional health authority gain from integrating all its ICT systems?
The Central Norway Regional Health Authority currently has around 500 IT systems. The largest region, the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority, has around 1,500. Other regional health authorities lie somewhere between these two extremes. These are now all being incorporated into a unified system. Central Norway leads the way. “Approximately 60 to 70 per cent of all ICT support at our hospitals in Central Norway is combined into one system. However, there are also several small ICT systems that doctors and other healthcare personnel must use,” explains department manager Per Olav Skjesol of Central Norway Regional Health Authority IT (Hemit). The different groups, such as cancer and maternity specialists, will have their own systems.
