What does a rabbit have to do with easter?

Rabbits became related to Easter because of Ostara or Eastre, the goddess of spring and fertility. Hares have always been known for their ability to reproduce plentifully and this was her sign. When you thought of fertility, you thought of Eastre and when you thought of Eastre, you thought of eggs and hares. Rabbits are just a close cousin of the hare and are known all over the world, naturally Westerners were more attracted to the rabbit. When the Germans emigrated to the U.S. they brought with them the tradition of leaving eggs for children to find on Easter morning. So, many years later, we still carry on this tradition adding our own little twist on it-coloring eggs. I’ve enjoyed it for years, long live the Easter Bunny!!
