What does a Police Detective do?
A Detective does all the required follow-up work on cases after the initial investigation and report is taken. Information that needs to be verified is gone through, witnesses and suspects are tracked down, and additional evidence may also be gathered. The Detective will then determine if the case warrants an arrest, is temporarily at a dead end, or if the case can be forwarded for review by the District Attorney’s Office for possible charges against an individual. Each Detective carries a caseload that can vary from 10-50 cases at any given time.
