What does a Podiatry Assistant do?
Podiatry Assistants are members of the Podiatry Team. They assist Podiatrists in a variety of ways, both clinical and administrative. Their duties include foot care clinics, helping with nail surgery, visiting patients in hospital, nursing homes and in their own homes to deliver podiatry treatment. Administrative duties include booking appointments, telephone messages, computer work and communication with other departments. Podiatry Assistants also manage stock levels of medical supplies, equipment, stationery and educational information for patient needs. Podiatry Assistants undergo in depth training that can last 18to 24 months and have to pass 3 exams; practical, theory and oral before they may treat patients within the NHS. Lifelong learning continues to update skills and new treatments throughout the Podiatry Assistants career.
