What does a pediatric occupational therapist (OT) do?
A pediatric OT evaluates and treats children in the areas of fine motor skills, pre-writing and handwriting, self-help skills, activities of daily living, visual perception and visual-motor integration, social skills, and sensory processing/sensory integration issues. An OT will address issues that limit your child’s ability to fully engage in their “occupations,” which for children mostly include building the skills to be successful in the classroom, at home and in the community. OTs work on building developmental foundational skills, and sometimes making adaptations as needed to compensate for skill delays in order to allow the child to be successful. 6.
