What does a parish nurse do?
The nurse brings a blending of compassion, healing, education, and caring to facilitate the healing mission of the church. This healing ministry is determined by the distinct needs of the people in our parish. The Parish Nurse typically serves in a variety of roles in the home, hospital, nursing home or the Health Ministry office: • Health Educator: provides health and wellness information which also incorporates the important faith dimension. • Health Counselor: provides health, personal and spiritual support for persons at home, in the nursing home, hospital or in the Health Ministry office. • Referral Source: provides information about community resources, agencies, and where to turn for help. Acts as a liaison between the patient and the resources to help bridge the gap between the service that is needed and the resources that are available. • Health Facilitator: coordinates volunteers within the parish to meet the needs of our members; coordinates the Health Ministry services in o
