What does a Pagan Celebrant do and what is Handfasting?
I perform Pagan Marriage Ceremonies. The Handfasting part refers to the binding of the hands of the couple to symbolise that they are joined together. The bride and groom often wear brightly coloured robes, sometimes silver, to represent the goddess and gold to represent the god, although some still choose to wear conventional bridal wear. The ceremony is very beautiful and can be adapted to suit each couple to their individual tastes as long as some basics are adhered to. The Celebrant will create a sacred space and will call the couple over. They will be blessed with their hands tied together in ribbons or cord. They will exchange vows and sometimes rings and jump over a broomstick held near the ground . The ceremony can be made to include poetry or music to reflect the couple and they are actively encouraged to write their own vows.
