What does a negative HIV test mean?
A negative HIV test means that HIV antibodies have not been found in your blood at this time. If you were exposed to HIV more than six moths ago then you are not infected and do not need to repeat the test. If your exposure was less than six months ago, then you are in the window period and you should take the test again at the six month mark after that exposure. A negative test result does not mean you are immune to HIV, that you have resistance to the virus, or that you will never get HIV or AIDS. You should go in for an HIV test any time you have a possible exposure to HIV (between three to six months after each possible exposure).
