What does a middle school alternative program look like?
A staff committee has been created to study and recommend what an LPS middle school alternative program would look like if approved by the Board of Education. LPS has the advantage of the experiences obtained by the Bryan Community. However, the District recognizes that a middle school program would require a unique approach appropriate for this age group. Additional student support is most likely necessary to assist students in becoming proficient in reading, writing, and math. Special attention would likely need to be given to improving interpersonal skills and behavioral difficulties. What happens to ELL students who are presently attending Hawthorne Elementary? An ELL Center would be opened at Hartley Elementary School, and those students who live in the Hartley attendance area would attend their neighborhood school. This is a group of approximately 80 students. The transportation that is presently provided to Hawthorne would no longer be necessary, as the students would be in thei
