What does a housing carpentry apprentice do?
A housing carpentry apprentice is involved in: Constructing wall and ceiling frames, pitched roof frames, eaves and roof trusses. They are required to demonstrate many construction techniques such as installing windows and doors, flooring systems, bulkheads, stairs and ramps. They are involved in the finish and repair of wooden and metal structures and fixtures on residential building sites. As a housing carpenter you must be able to: • shift materials safely by hand • carry out measurements and calculations • follow Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures • apply quality processes • read and interpret plans and specifications • work with others in a team • use explosive hand tools • carry out levelling operations • carry out basic demolition • construct wall, ceiling and pitched roof frames • construct and erect prefabricated units • erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding • use carpentry tools and equipment.
