What does a hot spot on a dog look like?
It depends on how long the dog has been scratching. The first signs of a hot-spot are red irritated skin and then hair loss. After a few days the hot spot will break open and bleed, then scab. If scratching continues and/or the hot-spot is infected it may puss too, or leak a clear or yellow/greenish fluid that often smells as bad as it looks. Hot-spots can be caused by a lot of things and cause serious infections, so if your dog has one be sure to bring it to the Vet, I’ve known dogs who’s hot spots are caused by everything from bug bites to food allergies.
