In CA the Funeral Director meets with the family of the deceased, assists them in choosing casket, type of service, whether or not to embalm, etc., then a Director will be with the family throughout the services. The Director is, basically, a sales person. Depending on which licenses the Director has, the individual may also sell insurance to the members of the family (called preened) or perform other services, such as embalming, make-up, etc. There is also a Cemetery Director that will assist the family with the site for the burial (or entombment/inurnment) and headstone, as well as the costs of the burial, headstone, etc. This individual is also a sales person, selling burial plots, headstones, etc., and will be with the family throughout the services of the deceased.
