What does a Engineering Tradesperson Plant Mechanics (Industrial Mechanical) apprentice do?
An apprentice Plant Mechanic (Industrial) is involved in repairing, overhauling and maintaining mobile heavy equipment such as highway transport vehicles, construction and earth-moving equipment, tractors and mobile industrial equipment. As a Plant Mechanic (Industrial) you must be able to: • keep equipment cleaned, lubricated and maintained • diagnose faults or malfunctions • adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems • test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that the work done meets manufacturers’ specifications and legislated regulations • service and repair engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and the electrical and electronic systems in heavy equipment • diagnose problems by discussing equipment operation with owners, visually checking and listening to machinery in operation, and using testing equipment • take defective units apart and repair or replace broken, worn-out or faulty parts • reassemble, adjust, lubricate an
