What does a device need in order to be able to play a particular piece of content?
All of the following are required: • A License for the content, which may or may not be embedded within the content file itself. • The private or secret key of the Node to which the License is bound, so that the key can be used to decrypt the key with which the content was encrypted. (The content key in the License was encrypted with the public or secret key of the specified Node, so it must be decrypted using the private or secret key.) The private or secret key, as appropriate, is available in a Link to the Node to which the License is bound. Thus, the device can obtain the private (or secret) key if it contains a path of Octopus Links from the device to the Node to which the License is bound. • Satisfaction of all the usage rules specified in the control program in the License.
