What does a correlation coefficient show?
The correlation coefficient is a measure of the degree of association between two variables. If the value is +1, the points will have a positive slope and appear as points on a straight line. If the value is -1, the points will appear to fall on a straight line, but will have a negative slope. If the value is 0, there will be no apparent relationship between the variables. The linearity increases as the value approaches +1 or -1.
