What does a certified nurse midwife do?
I am a registered nurse but I went on to get my master’s degree as an advance practice nurse and got certified in midwifery. I deliver babies in the hospital. A CNM can deliver babies at home, too, but I don’t do that. I specialize in normal, low-risk, healthy women. I work with a doctor in case of any potential complications or if a C-section becomes necessary. How do you balance your time between job, busines and family? I share call with my partner, so I’m not on call every day and I only work from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. So I spend all afternoon with my family and I try really hard not to take work home with me. I do the Labor Looks stuff after they go to bed. In the beginning, when I didn’t have a job, I spent a lot of time getting things going. We do trade shows on weekends three or four times a year and spend some time connecting with local businesses but most of my work for the business is online.
