What does a career as an Environmental Health Officer involve?
EHOs are primarily concerned with protecting the public from the harmful exposures they may encounter in the environment and with improving its health. They act as advisers, educators and enforcement officers. EHOs carry out site visits and give advice and assistance to individual householders and businesses and to managers and workers. In certain circumstances, they take enforcement action to ensure compliance with legislation designed to protect the health of the public. Many EHOs pursue a general career and deal with a wide range of functions. A lesser number become specialists in specific areas of environmental health.
