What does a builder need to do to meet the NAHB Green Building Standard?
The basic steps in the process are, first, to determine the compliance of a potential home with the National Green Building Standard by seeing how the potential home “scores” with regard to the standard based on how the home is to be built. If the home does not look like it will “score” high enough to meet the Green Building Standard, the builder/homeowner can decide to improve the green performance of the home by doing things like incorporating fixtures that conserve more water, adding better insulation, or using more energy-efficient appliances. Once you know you are going to meet the level of the Standard that you are shooting for, it is a matter of registering with the NAHB, submitting information about the home, paying an application fee, and having two tests or checks of the home done by a certified tester.
