What does a aircraft maintenance engineer (structure) apprentice do?
As an aircraft maintenance engineer (structure) apprentice you’ll be involved in: • inspecting and certifying that work done on aircraft complies with written airworthiness standards • fitting, assembling, maintaining and repairing components and sub-assemblies that comprise aircraft frames. Aircraft maintenance engineers (structure) may specialise in different types of aircraft such as turbo jets, helicopters or propeller-driven aeroplanes. As an aircraft maintenance engineer (structure) you must be able to: • position parts and sub-assemblies such as fuselage, wing or tail components, fuel tanks, landing gear, safety systems and internal fittings on working surfaces, part-assembled airframes or assembly jigs, using hoists; • lay out and mark reference points or guidelines and align parts, using precision measuring instruments; • assemble parts and sub-assemblies; • rectify minor faults and send items requiring major repairs to workshops or support facilities; • verify alignments, cle
