What documents do I need to travel and re-enter the U.S.?

Since 2008, United States citizens can no longer travel in and out of the U.S. without proof of citizenship. A passport will satisfy the requirements and is necessary for all Americans who are returning to the state from international air travel.  You can also get a passport card for a slightly lower cost, but that will only get you in and out of Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean if you are traveling by land or sea (like a cruise ship). Information for both can be obtained at the government’s travel site-http://travel.state.gov/
