What documentation is required for workers coming to Italy?
The requirements for documents in Italy generally follow the pattern for all EU countries. That is, non EU citizens will be required to obtain a visa in their own country, EU residents do not. Once they have arrived in Italy, both will apply for the following documents: • Permit to stay: it is issued by the Italian Police Head-Quarter (Questura). For a non EU citizen, the visa is absolutely required in order to apply for the permit to stay. • Tax Code: it is equivalent of the Social Security number in the US. It is necessary to sign a lease, to hook-up utilities, to open a bank account, to buy a car, to receive Public Health Assistance, etc. • Working Booklet: This is a booklet for employees in which the starting and termination dates of your jobs are entered.
