I have to say that my answer to this depends how old the woman is. I say this, because 30 years ago, before I had children etc, I didn’t want anything to do with pills or injections that would mess up my hormones. I was thinking of long term damage and side effects. Now I’ve had my kids and am in my mid 40s. I started taking the pill for the first time a few years ago (didn’t like the sound of the injection – don’t like needles). I’m on the mini pill so I take them 365 days of the year. My periods stopped after about the first 12 months and I love it! But that’s because I’m 45 and I don’t have to worry too much about how it will affect my normal cycle or the possible carcinogenic side effects because in a few years I’ll be on the menopause anyway.
