What do you think of the ban of the flag folding narrative ceremony at national cemeteries?
The narrative has always been optional, and the ban originated from a complaint about an instance when the narrative was mistakenly read at a ceremony where it was not requested. There are references to Christianity in the narrative that may not coincide with Jewish or Moslem beliefs. The ban is an over-reaction to the complaint. A better solution would have been to put in place more confirmation points on whether the narrative is read at a ceremony. Of course, nobody is going to stand up during the ceremony and cut off the narrative. Each event should have a decision maker for the family that can be consulted at multiple times during the planning and execution of the event, to make sure everything goes as planned. This was just a miscommunication, and now families that do request this may be denied, generating even more complaints. That is the way the goverment does things.
