What do you think of neighbourhood watch schemes?

The police are being considerate and caring putting that note through your door. Police rarely have time to do that. In areas where a neighbourhood watch scheme is most needed, people are often too busy or are not around to be interested in their neighbours. If an alarm goes off, we tend to take no notice because it is such a frequent occurrence usually caused by a fault and not a burglary. I think people are reluctant to rely on neighbours because they rely on these faulty alarms for security. They forget that an alarm is no use without people to take notice and act. It is helpful to be aware of the rates of burglary in the area and know who to contact and what to do, just in case the next time an alarm goes off some action from neighbours would be helpful.
